Studying in Texas is a wonderful opportunity for international students, with the Lone Star State offering a wealth of opportunities, experiences and landmarks to visit.
Great place to live
For starters is the sprawling SMA campus. Set on 220 acres of former ranch land, this is an ideal starting point for those who want a true taste of Texan life. Students can go horseback riding or take advantage of the school’s rope and challenge course. Students who enjoy the warmth will love it here, with the climate made up of baking hot summers and mild winters.
Local city living
The city of San Marcos, home to Texas State University, is a vibrant place to live, and is one of the fastest-growing cities in the US. It’s also been voted one of the best places to raise children in America. The San Marcos river, known for its beauty and unique ecology, is well worth a visit as is the city's outlet mall, the second biggest tourist destination in the state. Downtown shopping, historical and cultural attractions, and great restaurants also make San Marcos a great place to visit.
The school is about a 45 minute drive from the fantastic capital city of Austin. Trips out here are quick and simple for parent visits - and there’s so much to do. Austin, known as the Live Music Capital of the World, is ideal for music fans and is renowned for its quirky subculture. History buffs will enjoy the LBJ Presidential Library and Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum, and the State Capitol building is equally fascinating. San Marcos is also just an hour away from San Antonio, which offers the beautiful River Walk, many cultural sites, a great zoo, and the Market Square or "El Mercado".
Great transport links
SMA is close to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, which flies all over North America and also to the United Kingdom. That means the school is easily accessible from all corners of the globe.
